Spartans Move to 2-1 on the Season With 9-0 Win Over Lyndon State

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's tennis team defeated Lyndon State College this afternoon by a score of 9-0.

With the win, the Spartans improve to 2-1 on the season while Lyndon State falls to 0-4.

Ciara Bannister and Megan Nadler got on the board first for the Spartans in doubles with a tight 9-7 win over Lyndon State. Kirsten Kruk and Kayla Zsido followed with a decisive 8-3 win, before Monika Plante and Jen Blay rounded out the doubles action with a third-flight victory by forfeit.

Castleton also enjoyed a successful day in singles action, sweeping the board with straight set victories. Bannister won her contest 6-1 and 6-2 before Nadler finished No. 2 singles with back-to-back 6-0 wins. Kruk finished her sweep with 6-1 and 6-0 scores, while Zsido defeated the Hornets 6-0 and 6-2 in her two matches. 

Plante and Emily Miller won Nos. 5 and 6 singles by forfeit.

The Spartans will return to action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday when they will open up conference play at home versus Green Mountain.
