ANDOVER, N.H. – The Castleton women's alpine skiing team placed three racers in the top 10 on Saturday en route to a second-place finish in the slalom at Blackwater Ski Area.
Castleton finished with a team time of 4:43.29, just seconds off the pace of the first-place squad, Brown, at 4:41.01. Babson rounded out the top three on the day with a team total of 4:45.14.
Linn Ljungemo, Kylie Mackie and Kirsten Kruk finished back-to-back-to-back in fifth, sixth and seventh place, respectively, for the Spartans. Ljungemo led the way for Castleton with a time of 1:34.24, while Mackie was on her heels at 1:34.30. Kruk rounded out the top-three for Castleton with a time of 1:34.75, as all three racers finished just more than half a second apart.
Megan O'Shea placed fourth on the team and 23rd overall in the 54-racer field, clocking in at 1:41.89. Madeline Haggerty finished at 1:42.27, good for 25th place, while Caitlin Houston rounded out the racers for Castleton with a time of 1:42.43 in 26th place.
Natalie Pearl and Ali Gunesch topped the field for Brown, claiming the Nos. 1 and 2 spots on the day with time of 1:32.54 and 1:33.00, respectively. Babson's Liz Baer rounded out the podium finishers at 1:33.60.
The Spartans will race in the slalom once more on Sunday at Blackwater, wrapping up their regular season in the process.
