Women's Alpine Skiing Places Third at Whiteface

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Castleton women's alpine skiing team collected a third-place finish on Friday at Whiteface, placing three racers in the top 20 in the giant slalom.

The Spartans finished with a team time of 6:48.84, while Brown topped the leaderboard at 6:30.55. Babson placed second with a team time of 6:36.69.

Linn Ljungemo led the Spartans on the day, finishing 10th overall with a two-run total of 2:14.11. Kylie Mackie placed 13th overall at 2:14.65, while Nadine Downing finished in 18th place with a time of 2:20.08.

Caitlin Houston was fourth on the team and 22nd overall, crossing at 2:24.88 for the Spartans. Megan O'Shea and Kirsten Kruk both raced for Castleton, but failed to complete the course.

The University of Connecticut's Alexandra Skovran took the top spot with a time of 2:08.97, while Brown's Ali Gunesch took second place at 2:09.07. Gunesch's teammate, Natalie Pearl, rounded out the top-three finishers in the race with a time of 2:09.38.

Castleton is back on the slopes once more tomorrow for a second giant slalom race at Whiteface.
