MARSHFIELD, Mass. -- For the third time this season, Alexis Kalm has been named New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Goalie of the Week for the week ending December 1.
Due to inclement weather, the Spartans were only able to play one game this past weekend in which Kalm flourished. The senior netminder from Aberdeen, N.C., posted an incredible 48 saves against a Nazareth team that received votes in the most recent USCHO.com Division III rankings.
Kalm kept the Spartans in the game as she helped kill off four Nazareth power play opportunities. She collected 14 saves in the first period while the Spartans only registered one shot on goal. After the Spartans tied the game up at one in the second period, Kalm helped preserve that tie with 20 second period saves but the Golden Flyers scored the game-winning goal with around five minutes left in the third period.
Despite the loss, Kalm continues to be one of the best goaltenders in the NEHC this season. She is currently third in the conference with a 2.09 goals against average and second with a .937 save percentage.
Women's ice hockey will begin the final stretch of games before the end of the semester as it travels to Norwich on Wednesday, December 4. After a devastating loss to the Cadets in the 2019 NEHC championship game, the Spartans will look to knock off this season's title favorites with a scheduled puck drop at 7 p.m.
