SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. –The Castleton softball team earned a doubleheader split at Skidmore on Saturday. The Spartans won game one, 9-4, before dropping a 5-0 decision in game two.

For the Thoroughbreds, Hannah Paolucchi led the way with a 4-for-6 line on the day with a home run in each game. Kaitlyn Judd also homered for Skidmore (8-9) in the victory in game two.

Castleton (6-9) returns to action on Tuesday with a scheduled home doubleheader versus Plymouth State, set to commence at 3:30 p.m.

Castleton scored seven runs in the fifth inning to flip a two-run deficit to a five-run advantage. Olivia Bowen drove in the first run on a single to left. Then, Kate LaPan hit a two-run single to give the Spartans a lead. Tori Swaine walked with the bases loaded before an infield error and a wild pitch allowed the remaining tallies to cross the plate.

Skidmore struck first in the third inning for a pair of runs with two outs. Megan White doubled before back-to-back singles by Karly Fishkin and Genesis Delgado plated both scores.

Skidmore inched closer in the sixth on a two-run homerun by Hannah Paolucchi, but Miranda Fish crushed a one-bouncer off the fence in left-center to score two and re-gain the five-run cushion.
