CASTLETON, Vt. - The Castleton men's soccer team (0-2) is set to host non-conference foe SUNY Poly (0-1) Tuesday night in its first home match of the 2017 season at 7 p.m. at Spartan Stadium.
Castleton enters the contest still searching for its first win after dropping two contests in the Husky Challenge last weekend at Southern Maine. The Spartans fell to the host Huskies, 2-1, in overtime on Friday before dropping a 4-0 decision against Coast Guard on Saturday.
Derek Blouin tallied the Spartan goal in the four-team tournament, finishing a cross from Jack Kingdon. Seraphin Iradukunda has made two starts and sustained solid offensive pressure with seven shots. The freshman, however, is still searching for his first career goal. Senior Aaron Parker made both starts between the pipes and has recorded seven saves in 179 minutes of action. Cam Rossi-Crete and Thomas Kirk were named to the All-Tournament Team following the squad's matches.
SUNY Poly makes the trip to Spartan Stadium after dropping its season opener, 1-0, at home versus Utica College last Friday. The Wildcats surrendered a goal in the 86th minute that proved to be the difference.
SUNY Poly was outshot, 13-10, in the contest. Kyle Baker led the Wildcats with three shots on goal, while Jeremiah Besse and Wyatt Snell also recorded shots between the pipes. Wildcats defender C.J. Dean received a yellow card in the match. Alexander Gigliotti played all 90 minutes in goal for the Wildcats, collecting two saves while surrendering the lone goal down the stretch.
The Spartans look to start the home slate strong in 2017, as they finished with a 4-5 overall record at Spartan Stadium last season.
