BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Castleton University men's Nordic ski team placed two competitors in the top 10 to lead the Spartans on the first day of the ECSC Mansfield Divisional Championships Saturday at Prospect Mountain.
David Harvey was the top finisher for Castleton in the 10-kilometer skate technique event, finishing the course in 31:59 to end up in fourth place, just one second behind the third-place finisher. Teammate Devin Perry finished in eighth place with a time of 32:56.
Thomas Rizza posted a time of 44:10 to finish in 35th place in the individual standings. Keegan Cummings completed the event in 49:20 to finish in 42nd place, just ahead of Peter Michelsen in 43rd place with a time of 52:09.
Spencer Knickerbocker of Marlboro College won the event in 30:34, 39 seconds in front of Thomas Clayton of the University of Vermont.
With the forecast of a strong winter storm entering New England Sunday, Feb. 12, the start time of the five-kilometer classic has been moved up to 8:00 a.m.
