NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Castleton men's golf team finished in 16th place at its first event of the spring season this weekend, completing the two-day Hampton Inn Collegiate Invite hosted by UMass.-Dartmouth on Saturday at Allendale Country Club.
The Spartans held their position after finishing Friday's round in 16th place as well. Castleton shot a team total of 717, carding a combined score of 360 on day one before improving three strokes for a 357 on day two. Tufts took the top spot at the tournament, with a two-day total of 620, while Babson (626) and Amherst (640) rounded out the top three.
Zach Temple tied for 28th overall to lead the way for the Spartans with a two-day total of 163, shooting rounds of 82 and 81 for a combined +19 score in relation to par. Jon Benson finished second on the team with a two-day score of 177 from rounds of 92 and 85.
Jacob Erwin shot rounds of 89 and 92 to give him a two-day score of 181, while Jordan Ayer carded rounds of 97 and 105. Jesse Rowe shot a score of 110 on day one, before improving 11 strokes on day two to shoot a 99.
Castleton will play its second spring tournament on April 22 and 23 at Ballston Spa Country Club.
