Alex Todd

Coach Alex Todd began his hockey career in Rice Lake, Wisc. andplayed until his junior year of high school, when he left to playhis senior season in Dubuque Iowa, in the USHL. After the USHLcoach Todd played four years at Union College in the DivisionI ECAC Hockey League.

Upon graduation, coach Todd signed a professional contract withthe Fresno Falcons in the West Coast Hockey League, (WCHL, now theECHL) and played for them from 2001-2003. In his rookie campaignTodd picked up where he left off at Union with a stand out rookieseason, earning Rookie of the Year honors for the Falcons, as wellas being voted onto the league’s “All RookieTeam”. The ideal end of his rookie season came when theFresno Falcons earned the league’s playoff title and wherenamed Taylor Cup Champions

After two more years as a professional one in the WCHL and oneyear in the CHL, coach Todd made the decision to hang up hisskates, and work on the other side of the bench. His coachingcareer began at Utica College in Utica, New York (ECAC West NCAAD-III).  After a successful first year in college hockey as acoach, Todd began working with USA hockey and its summerdevelopment programs.  To date, he has assisted with USAhockey player development camps in the Central States District, andthe Mid America Bantam Camp. Coach Todd has also been involved withthe USA Hockey national festivals coaching at each level, the14’s, 15’s, 16’s and 17’s for the lasteight years.

Coach Todd’s seven-year tenure has been marked by manyfirsts for the Castleton men’s hockey program, beginning with40-23-7 record at home over the last six years and an overall markof 95-49-16 during the same six-year span.

During the 2010-11 campaign the team reached new heights. TheSpartans finished with school-record 22 victories and an overallrecord of 22-4-1, highlighted by an astounding 11-0-0 mark on theroad. When the dust settled on the season, Todd was named ECAC EastCoach of the Year, and had the distinction of coaching the firstACHA All-Americans in Castleton men’s hockey history.

Last year the Spartans were ranked as high as No. 3 in thenation and came within a victory of earning the program's second20-win season. Castleton also reached its first ECAC Championshipgame, before falling to eventual champion Norwich. Todd had fiveplayers earn all-conference recognition, as well as the program'sthird ACHA All-America honoree.

Despite the considerable success on the ice, the numbers thatcoach Todd is most proud of are his team’s accomplishmentsoff the ice. The Spartans have led ECAC East in All-Academic Teamselections for four of the last six years, own a team average GPAof 3.42, and are the four-time winners of the Presidents Cup forthe highest GPA of any winter sport at Castleton. Coach Todd andhis players are also very involved in the local community and todate they have raised and donated over $18,000, and countlessvolunteer hours to local charities in the Castleton and Rutlandcommunity.

 
Coach Todd lives in Rutland with his wife Ali, daughter Abigailand their two dogs Bauer and Delaney.
