Field Hockey Downs Keuka on Senior Day

CASTLETON, Vt. -- The Castleton University field hockey defeated Keuka 7-1 as the team honored its seniors Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans took charge early as the team earned a penalty stroke under a minute into the game. Senior Cydney Jeffrey, who scored two goals in today's the contest, buried the shot with ease to give the Spartans and early 1-0 lead.   

The Wolves were not behind long as Adele Fairbrother connected on a Nicole Wilson pass to tie the game up at one at the 6:05 mark of the first quarter.

The Spartans began a fierce attack as they scored three unanswered goals in the first quarter to lead 4-1 heading into the second quarter of play. Senior Olivia Trevisani scored her third (11:02 mark) and fourth (13:03 mark) goals of the season in a span of two minutes to break things open for the Spartans. At the 14:13 mark of the quarter, junior Allison Lowell maneuvered through the Wolves defense to collect the Spartans' fourth goal of the first quarter as she tallied her seventh of the season.

Junior Gabriella Hunt joined the action in the second quarter as she scored her team high 16th goal of the season to increase the Spartans' lead. Freshman Kaitlin Bardellini sent a long pass across the striking circle and Hunt buried the shot to give the Spartans a 5-1 lead.

Hunt continues her phenomenal junior season as she now is sole possession of sixth place on the Spartans' all-time points list with 98 points.

Jeffrey tallied her second goal of the game and sixth of the season in the third quarter as she connected on a Lowell pass to pad the Spartans' lead even more.

Lowell tallied her second goal of the game at the 49:00 mark of the fourth quarter to finalize the scoring for the Spartans. Lowell finished the day with two goals and two assists for five points. 

Senior goaltender Tashia Pashby-Rockwood earned the win in goal as she allowed just one goal and tallied two saves. Freshman Hope Brown relieved Pashby-Rockwood in the third quarter and collected one save. 

Field hockey will return to action on Tuesday, October 29 at it takes on Fitchburg State in a Little East Conference matchup at Dave Wolk Stadium. The final regular season home game is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
