CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton wrestling team hosted senior day and the Castleton Quad on Saturday, taking the opening match over SUNY Brockport, 33-6, before falling in a close battle with No. 20 Springfield College, 21-16. The Spartans finished the night with a dominant 34-6 win over No. 14 Johnson & Wales.

Josh Negron were all honored prior to the start of the duals, as all five have left a lasting impact on the Castleton wrestling program.
No. 10 VTSU Castleton 33, SUNY Brockport 6
Ninth-ranked Marchese opened senior day with a 2:38 pin as the Spartans jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the 125-pound match. At 133 pounds,
Stone Farnsworth took a 13-4 win via major decision, extending the team's lead to 10.
Viktor Banda fell via a 19-13 decision at 141, while
Joseph Kennedy snagged a tight 5-4 decision at 149, giving Castleton a 13-3 lead. Camiscioli blanked 10th-ranked Tyler Rossini at 157 pounds with a 5-0 decision, followed by 15th-ranked Holmes taking a statement 18-2 technical fall win at 165 pounds.
The Spartans, now up 21-3, turned to
Joseph Baker at 174 pounds, as he took a 5-1 decision. At 184 pounds, McLaughlin snagged his 100th career win with a 9-2 decision over Avery Bustamante, pushing the team's score to 27-3 in favor of the Spartans. 13th-ranked Negron notched the second pin of the day for Castleton in 4:50 at 197 pounds, while
Logan Frank closed out the first match of the day with a close 5-2 loss in sudden victory, as the Spartans took a 33-6 victory.
No. 20 Springfield 21, No. 10 VTSU Castleton 16
Marchese notched his second win of the day with an 11-2 major decision at 125, while Farnsworth fell in sudden victory 4-1 at 133 pounds, as Castleton led 4-3.
Jack Voute fell in sudden victory 4-1 as well at 141 pounds, while
Dylan Vanegas took an 11-4 decision win at 149 as the Spartans regained the lead (7-6). Camiscioli notched a 1-0 decision over Ryan Kozdra at 157 pounds, pushing Castleton up 10-6.
Holmes took the 165-pound match via an 11-4 decision, while Baker was pinned in 1:27 by third-ranked Jake Deguire as Castleton worked to hold on to a 13-12 lead. McLaughlin fell in the sudden victory period to sixth-ranked Myles Leonard at 184 pounds, as Springfield now led by two (15-13). Negron snagged a 2-1 decision win at 197, giving Castleton a one-point lead with one match left. Frank fell via pin in 2:00 at 285 as Springfield took the 21-16 win.

Ninth-ranked Marchese went 3-0 on the day with a 1-0 decision over 10th-ranked Nico Rivera, while
Aidan Shufelt made work of Ryan O'Rourke at 133, taking a 14-3 major decision win. Voute notched an 8-4 decision at 141 pounds to put Castleton up 10-0. Vanegas was pinned at 149 in 2:45 at 149 in Castleton's only loss of the match. Camiscioli also went 3-0 on the day, with a 2-0 decision in his final match in Glenbrook Gym.
15th-ranked Holmes pulled off the upset at 165 pounds in one of the most exciting bouts of the day. He took a 2-1 decision from riding time over sixth-ranked Jack Richardson as the gym erupted, and the Spartans were up 16-6. Baker earned a 20-4 technical fall win at 174, while McLaughlin won his match via a 16-2 major decision at 184 pounds. Negron battled with Anthony Fernandez at 197 pounds, pulling out a 6-4 decision, while Frank took the final match of the day via medical forfeit, giving Castleton the 34-6 victory.
The team is back in action on Friday, February 13, at No. 19 Williams College for dual meet action, set to begin at 7 p.m.
