How It Happened
Wentworth wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 lead just 18 seconds into the opening period. Castleton worked to find its footing, putting 11 shots on goal throughout the period and looked to get back into the game.
Castleton found its answer in the second period after Wentworth was called for roughing. Â The Spartans made the most of the power-play opportunity, as
Trevor Castino buried the equalizer off assists from
David Coyle and
Luke Chakrabarti to pull Castleton even. Both teams traded chances through the rest of the period, but neither could break the tie.
The game remained close into the third, but Wentworth managed to slip one past to reclaim the lead. Castleton continued to push for another goal, outshooting the Leopards 33-30 overall, but couldn't find another equalizer before the final horn.
