HENNIKER, N.H. – The Vermont State University Castleton wrestling team moved to 13-6 in dual meet action following Thursday's 36-12 victory over New England College, taking seven out of the 10 bouts.
Avi Berg kicked off the evening for the Spartans with a 7-3 decision over Dominic Gagni at 125 pounds. At 133 pounds,
Stone Farnsworth fell 4-2 in a tight decision loss, followed by
Nicolas Balella at 141 pounds, being pinned at 8:36 as the Spartans trailed 9-3.
Dylan Vanegas earned the Spartans' first technical fall win of the night, 17-1 at 149 pounds, bringing Castleton within one (9-8).
Dom Lapier gave the Spartans a 13-9 lead with an 18-3 technical fall victory at 157 pounds, halfway through the match.
Jashon Holmes continued the technical fall roll for the Spartans with a 21-3 win at 165 pounds, putting the team up 18-9, followed by
Joseph Baker winning at 174 via forfeit as the Spartans went up 24-9.
Jake Long fell 11-4 via decision in a battle at 184 pounds, giving New England College three team points (24-12).
Josh Negron notched the first pin of the night in favor of the Spartans at 197 pounds, taking down Brayden Sohn in 1:17 for six team points as Castleton went up 30-12 with one bout to go.
Logan Frank ended the night with a statement 25-second pin at 285 over Dylan Panas, securing a 36-12 dual victory for the Spartans.
The team is back in action at Glenbrook Gym on Saturday, February 7, as they host the Castleton Quad, slated to begin at 12 p.m.
