Wrestling Collects All-NEWA Accolades

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton wrestling team collected more post-season honors on Tuesday, earning 10 spots across two All-NEWA teams and landing 32 wrestlers on the NEWA All-Academic Team.
 
The Spartans had a representative at each weight class across the All-NEWA Second Team and Honorable Mention list and landed six first-year wrestlers on the NEWA All-Rookie Team.
 
All eight wrestlers who made NCAA National Championship appearances this season earned themselves a spot on the All-NEWA Second Team. Gavin Bradley, James Rodriguez, Elijah Cyr, Nathaniel Camiscioli, Connor Gregory, Sampson Wilkins, Haven Tatarek, and Evan Day landed second-team honors, while Drew Marchese and Jashon Holmes earned spots on the Honorable Mention list.
 
At 125 pounds, Bradley finished the season 36-8 overall and 17-3 in dual matches. Rodriguez claims one last honor of his incredible career, going 32-7 overall and 16-2 in duals at 141 pounds. Cyr made his first NCAA National Championships appearance this season at 149 pounds, finishing 27-14 overall and 9-8 in dual competitions. Camiscioli rounded out his season at 154 pounds at 30-11 overall and 15-5 in dual matches. Gregory marked his first National Championship season with an overall record of 31-14, going 9-5 in dual competition.
 
Wilkins finished out an impressive career at 184 pounds, going 29-4 overall, dropping one dual match all season to finish 13-1. At 197 pounds, Tatarek finished his career at 32-13 overall, going 12-6 in dual matches. Rounding out the Second Team honorees, Day finished his sophomore season with an overall record of 26-7, going 6-3 in dual competitions at 285 pounds.
 
On the Honorable Mention list, Marchese went 5-5 in dual matches, finishing the season at 18-11 overall at 131 pounds. At 165 pounds, Holmes posted an impressive junior season, going 31-13 overall, and 12-5 in dual competitions.
 
First-years Nicolas Balella (149), Colby Celuck (174), Keonta Crawford (285), Elijah Farias (141), Stone Farnsworth (133), and Dom Lapier (165) earned themselves spots on the NEWA All-Rookie team after noteworthy showings in their first season as a Spartan.
 
Rounding out the awards on the NEWA All-Academic Team were Bradley, Camiscioli, Celuck, Crawford, Cyr, Day, Farnsworth, Holmes, Lapier, Rodriguez, Robert Allcroft, Viktor Banda, Logan Bruce, Syrus Colon, Tylik Epps, Logan Frank, Giovanni Gioio, Isaiah Grant, Braeden Gray, Michael Harrington, Cruz Henton, Cormac Horlbogen, Stephen Jennings, Joseph Kennedy, Mason Lishness, Jake Long, Darius Mangiafico, John Marcellus, Justyce Mercado, Griffin Norwalt, Zach Olden, and Blake Sastre.
