RUTLAND, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's tennis team closed out the 2025 season with a loss to Little East Conference opponent Western Connecticut Saturday afternoon, falling 7-2.
The Spartans were blanked in doubles play, falling 8-4 at the first spot with
Miki Almirall and
Valero Echegoyen. At the second spot,
Tanner Ciufo and
Remy Maynard dropped their match 8-5, and
Trevor Castino and
Dylan Shiland rounded out doubles play at the third spot with an 8-2 loss.
In singles play, Maynard nabbed one point for Castleton at the No. 3 spot, taking the match 4-6, 6-4, and the tie-breaking third set 12-10. Castino earned the Spartan's second point of the day, taking his match 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot. The No. 1, 2, 4, and 6 spots all dropped their matches in two straight sets.
With the season coming to a close, Castleton finished the season 3-9 overall and 0-6 in Little East Conference play.
