HARTFORD, Conn. – The Vermont State University Castleton wrestling team went 2-0 at the Trinity Tri-Match Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans took down Trinity to start the day in perfect dominating fashion, winning 49-0. In match two of the day, Castleton faced Hunter College, taking the match 42-11, with Stephen Jennings posting his fastest pin of the season in 1:01.

Gavin Bradley earned a 9-0 win to start the day off for the Spartans, with Drew Marchese earning a win via decision at 133 pounds. James Rodriguez pinned his opponent at 141 pounds, as did Elijah Cyr at 149 pounds, lengthening the Spartans lead to 19-0. Nathaniel Camiscioli earned a win via major decision at 157 pounds to keep the Spartans perfect through the first five matches.
At 165 pounds, Jashon Holmes took down his opponent 20-3 to give Castleton four more team points. Connor Gregory earned his win via tech fall at 174 pounds, and Sampson Wilkins pinned his opponent to extend the lead to 38-0. Haven Tatarek won by tech fall at 197 pounds, and Abbas Abdulrahman finished out match one, with a 20-3 win to secure the 49-0 win.
VTSU Castleton 42, Hunter 11
The Spartans earned three wins to start match two of the day, all via forfeit at 125 pounds with Ryan VanGuilder notching the win, 133 pounds from Kaya Bogle, and 141 pounds from Stone Farnsworth, to jump out to an 18-0 lead. The match at 149 pounds was dropped, as was the 157 pound match, with Dom Lapier putting up a hard fight against Justin Riello, ultimately falling 9-6. The Hawks took their final bout of the match at 165 pounds, to bring the score to 18-11.
Blake Chapman and Logan Frank earned wins via forfeit at 174 and 184 pounds respectively. At 197 pounds, Jennings pinned his opponent in 1:01, and at 285 pounds Abdulrahman earned his second win of the day, pinning his opponent in 1:02 giving the Spartans a 42-11 victory.
The Spartans head back to Providence, Rhode Island for the Johnson & Wales Quad on Saturday, February 8, beginning at 1 p.m.
