Castleton Falls to St. John Fisher in Terry Moran Championship Game

RUTLAND, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's ice hockey team fell in the Fifth Annual Terry Moran Invitational Championship game to St. John Fisher on Saturday afternoon, 5-0. The Cardinals are coached by Reid Lesswing '14.

How It Happened
The Spartans opened the contest with an Emmett McHardy faceoff win, trading early shots with the visiting Cardinals. The first period remained tight throughout, with the score locked at 0-0 late, until St. John Fisher broke through in the 18th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

The second period mirrored the first, as SJF added another early goal while Castleton was again held scoreless, despite outshooting the Cardinals 12-10 in the frame. The Spartans earned a 5-on-4 advantage with one second left in the period, setting up a power-play opportunity to begin the third.

Despite their best efforts, the Spartans were unable to register a shot on the power play. The Cardinals found their rhythm in the final stanza, netting three goals to close out the 5-0 shutout.

By the Numbers
Cedrick Theodore and Luke Chakrabarti anchored the defensive effort, each recording two blocked shots. Chakrabarti also paced the offense with six shots.
• Goaltender Josh Ward went 1-1 on the weekend, earning both starts and making 19 saves against the Cardinals.
• Castleton held a slight edge in faceoff wins, 28-24, and led in total shots, 35-24, despite being unable to find the back of the net.
