DANBURY, Conn. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's tennis program wrapped up its 2024 campaign with a 5-0 loss to WestConn in the quarterfinal round of the LEC Championship Tournament on Tuesday.
Jason Lipscomb and Khiem Nguyen put forth a tremendous effort for the Spartans (6-7) in second doubles play, falling short by two games at 8-6. Liam Cramer teamed with fellow Christian Giannone for his first match in a month, battling to an 8-3 decision against WestConn's (9-9) Jason Lee and Caleb Harris. An 8-1 victory at the top flight for Aidan Burke/Kevin Tenesaca gave the Wolves a tandem sweep.
Burke powered through at second singles with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph as Tenesaca tallied consecutive 6-2 sets in No. 1 action, clinching the dual to advance WestConn into LEC semifinals.
VTSU Castleton closes the season 6-7, matching its 2023 win total and logging the squad's best win percentage (.462) since 2018. Giannone concludes his rookie year as the most successful singles player at 7-3 (4-2 in LEC play) while Lipscomb and Nguyen finish with a team-best 8-5 overall record in doubles action.
