RUTLAND, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's tennis team's four-game winning streak was snapped by Little East Conference foe Bridgewater State in a 7-2 loss Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans (4-1, 0-1 LEC) endured setbacks at the first and third doubles slots before the No. 2 pair of Khiem Nguyen/Jason Lipscomb bagged a gritty 8-6 triumph.

Tom Ayson's 6-3, 7-5 victory over Miki Almirall at singles No. 2 and a big third-flight win by Matthew Krampf extended the Bears' (1-1, 1-0 LEC) lead to three. The clinching point was provided by Adam Beatrice who cruised at the top spot by a 12-1 margin. VTSU Castleton conceded points in the fourth and fifth singles matchups, but Christian Giannone closed the meeting with a 6-3, 6-0 defeat of Charles Malinowski in the No. 6 slot.

The Spartans hit the road on Wednesday, April 3 to face VTSU Johnson. First serve is set for 6 p.m. at Topnotch Tennis Academy in Stowe, Vt.
