Men’s Hockey Upended in NEHC Quarterfinals by Hobart

GENEVA, N.Y. — The Vermont State University Castleton men's hockey team held top-seeded Hobart scoreless in the opening period, but the Statesmen pulled away, 8-1, to conclude the Spartans' campaign Saturday night.

Romeo Torain found paydirt with a second-period blast to notch the Spartans' (7-19-0) lone goal of the evening as Zach Trempner nabbed an assist.

Dominic Rodrigue turned away 43 shots to log his third-highest save mark of the year. VTSU Castleton totaled six blocked shots on defense, led by Andrew Stefura with two.

Hobart (23-2-1) was held scoreless through the opening 25 minutes but rallied with a five-goal second frame. Luke Aquaro struck twice with three assists to cap a five-point outing. Jonah Alexander, Conor Lally, and Chris Duclair registered one goal and one helper apiece. Tristan Fasig, Christian Duvall, and Artem Buzoverya rounded out the Statesmen scorers.

The Spartans finish their 2023-24 slate with a 7-19-0 record, going 4-14-0 against NEHC foes. The program is set to have 25 players return to the ice in green and white next season.
