Wrestling Clinches Top Spot at Roger Williams Invitational

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Vermont State University Castleton wrestling team took home first place at the Roger Williams Invitational Saturday evening.
 
The Spartans took the top spot behind 190 team points, followed by Wisconsin-Whitewater with 145, Wesleyan with 104, and No. 8 Coast Guard and No. 11 Johnson & Wales tied for fourth with 90.5 points each.
 
The Spartans had five first-place winners, highlighted by Gavin Bradley (125), Nathaniel Camiscioli (157), Desmond McLaughlin (174), Sampson Wilkins (184), and Evan Day (285). The Spartans second-place finishers were James Rodriguez (141), Elijah Cyr (149), Jashon Holmes (165), Syrus Colon (174), and Abbas Abdulrahman (285).
 
Drew Marchese (133), and Haven Tatarek (197) earned third-place finishes, with Kaya Bogle (133) and Blake Chapman (174) earning fourth-place finishes. Tylik Epps (141), Nicolas Balella (149), and Josh Negron (197) had fifth-place finishes, with Andrew Filip (197) and Alaq Dowd-Grant (285) rounding out the top six with sixth-place finishes.
 
Bradley went 4-0 on the day, winning via pin against Hagen Chase of Southern Maine, before winning via major decision and two more pins to clinch first place. Camiscioli went 4-0 on the day winning via tech fall in his first match and by decision in his next three to take the top spot. McLaughlin finished the day at 4-0 taking all four matches via decision. Wilkins finished at 4-0 as well with a tech fall to open the day followed by three major decisions. Day rounded out the first-place finishers going 4-0 with his first win via pin and the first-place match via major decision over Abdulrahman.  
 
Cyr and Homes went 4-1 on the day, while Rodriguez, Colon, and Abdulrahman finished at 3-1. Tatarek finished the day at 5-1 to secure third, with Marchese finishing at 4-1. Bogle and Chapman finished the day at 3-2 to secure fourth in their respective weight classes. Balella finished the day at 5-2, with Epps and Negron finishing at 4-2. Dowd-Grant finished 4-3 on the day, and Filip 2-3 to round out the Spartans place winners.
 
The Spartans host Delaware Valley on Friday, November 15 in their first home dual match of the season in Glenbrook Gym at 6:30 p.m.
