RUTLAND, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton (0-2-1) men's hockey team was defeated by top-ranked Hobart College (4-0-0) 3-0 in New England Hockey Conference action, on Saturday.
Josh Ward got the nod in net for back-to-back games and was stellar again with a new season-high 38 saves. Hobart's Mavrick Goyer earned his second shutout of the season after facing 19 shots.
After a tightly contested battle that resulted in a scoreless first period, Hobart's Tanner Daniels opened the scoring with a one-time shot from Luke Aquaro to give the Statesmen a 1-0 after two periods of play.

Jason Atkinson, and
Cam Reid led the charge for the Spartans offense, generating eight shots to try and get Castleton level again.
Hobart would extend their lead with two goals in the third period to finalize the score at 3-0 and extend their unbeaten streak to 29 contests, which is tied for the fifth-longest in NCAA Division III history.
VTSU Castleton returns to action Friday, November 15 at 5 p.m. against Albertus Magnus on the road.
