DANBURY, Conn. – The Castleton men's tennis team was eliminated from the Little East Conference Championship Tournament by WestConn, 5-0, in Tuesday's opening round contest.
At the second doubles flight, Connor Davis and Jason Lipscomb battled closely with Jay Kilcourse/Sebastian Frisch but Castleton's (6-8) junior pairing narrowly fell, 8-6. The third-seeded Wolves (8-8) locked up a tandem sweep with victories at the first and third spots.
Davis was downed at the No. 3 singles flight by Frisch, putting the Wolves one point away from the clinch. WestConn's Aidan Burke put away Phil Kluge at the second slot with a 6-0, 6-2 match to seal the win. Despite falling in all completed sets, the Spartans had two players with advantages in unfinished sets. Stanley Andersen was leading Jerry Narcisse 1-0 in the second set after a tight 7-5 first set, while Lipscomb also dropped a 7-5 set then had a 2-1 advantage over Kilcourse at the fourth spot.
The Spartans finish their season with a 6-8 overall record while going 1-5 in LEC play, the best marks for the program since 2018.
