Men's Hockey Falls to Rivier in Terry Moran Invitational Championship

RUTLAND, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's hockey team endured a 7-1 setback to Rivier in Saturday's Terry Moran Invitational championship game at Spartan Arena.

Zack Whittaker delivered a late tally, his first of the season, with assists being credited to Andrew Stefura and Bryce Irwin. Shot blocks were scattered throughout the lineup with nine different VTSU Castleton (4-5) skaters logging one apiece. In goal, Dominic Rodrigue turned away 26 net-bound shots fired by Rivier (4-4-1).

Leading the shot count for the Spartans were Cam Reid and Zach Trempner with four apiece. Three other players came close to finding the back of the net as Stefura, Dylan Roebuck, and Romeo Torain saw attempts bounce off the pipe.

The Raiders were keyed by Damon Kiyawasew, who struck once with three assists, as well as Liam Hennessy's pairs of scores and assists. Jon Tavella and Billy Hartnett each collected a goal and a helper while Tyler Sitnikov added two dimes.

The Spartans resume New England Hockey Conference play next weekend, heading southeast to battle Babson on Friday, December 1. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
