Women's Cross Country Places Five in Top 10, Wins Castleton Invitational

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's cross country team claimed first place in the Castleton Invitational on Saturday, its first team event win since 2018. 

All five members of the Spartan roster recorded top-10 finishes. Freshman Bethany Davis from White River Junction, Vt. burst onto the collegiate scene with a runner-up finish, completing the course in 24:26. Right behind Davis were Eden Goldstein (24:36) and Amber Cuthbert (24:44) each of the three runners averaged mile times under eight minutes. Trinity Lynch, a freshman and Suffern, N.Y. native, finished eighth in her first collegiate race. Senior Charlotte Morrison logged a tenth-place performance with a 29:44 mark.

The team's 27 points edged out SUNY Cobleskill (34 points) and SUNY Canton (64 points). SUNY Cobleskill's Jenna Swyers had a phenomenal race for the Fighting Tigers, winning the race by a minute with a time of 23:26.

The Spartans return to action at Vermont Tech next Saturday, September 10 for the Vermont State Meet, also known as the VTC Maple Syrup Challenge. The women take off at noon, followed by the men at 12:45 p.m.
