RUTLAND, Vt. – The Castleton men's tennis team took on Norwich University Sunday afternoon, claiming the 6-3 victory on home court to prevent the season sweep.
The Spartans (2-4, 0-1 LEC) got things started on doubles courts, with
Phil Kluge and
Dante Buttino earning an 8-3 win on first doubles, before
Miguel Almirall Perez and
Rowan Kidder combined for an 8-3 win on third doubles to give Castleton the 2-1 lead.
Connor Davis kept things rolling with his first win of the season on second singles, beating the Cadets' (2-2, 0-1 GNAC) Isaac Chapman 6-0, 6-4 to give the Spartans the 3-1 lead. Norwich wins on third and sixth singles leveled the score at three, but Almirall Perez earned a 7-5, 6-3 win over Molly Twombly to give Castleton back the lead.
The Spartans wrapped up the afternoon with two three-set victories, with Kluge besting Patrick O'Neal 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 on first singles, before Buttino wrapped up the 6-3 victory with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win on fourth singles, handing Castleton their second team victory on the season.
The Spartans are back in action Saturday, April 9 to take on Bridgewater State in an LEC showdown. Opening serve is set for 1 p.m.
