CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton men's tennis team hosted NVU-Johnson in a non-conference matchup Sunday afternoon, dropping just one game in the entire day en route to the 9-0 win.
The afternoon kicked off with a dominant showing on first and second doubles, where the Spartans (3-8, 0-5 LEC) cruised to two 8-0 victories. Castleton took the 5-0 team advantage and clinched the victory with forfeits on third doubles as well as first and second singles, but the best was yet to come on the remaining singles courts.
On third, fifth and sixth singles respectively,
Dante Buttino,
Jahwara Rennalls and
Rowan Kidder all won in straight sets — the first of the season for both Buttino and Kidder — before
Miguel Almirall Perez clinched the sweep with a decisive 6-1, 6-0 win on fourth singles.
The Spartans will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup against Thomas College Wednesday, April 27. Opening serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
