NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Castleton University men's hockey team wasn't able to corral the Norwich Cadets Friday night at Kreitzberg Arena, dropping the conference battle 7-1.
The eleventh-ranked Cadets (9-3-4, 6-3-3 NEHC) were held to one goal in the first period as
Kyle Alaverdy totaled 11 saves, but flexed their potent offense in the second period with four tallies before the Spartans (4-13-1, 0-10-1 NEHC) got on the board.
Alex Maunula netted his second goal of the season off a feed from
Anton Tarvainen with only two seconds remaining in the period. Two Cadet goals in the third period would seal the final 7-1 margin.
The Cadets used six different goal scorers in the contest as Noah Williams was the lone skater to record multiple tallies. Patrick Delvecchio netted a goal along with three assists.
Alaverdy totaled 23 saves in two periods of work before Collett assumed netminding duties in the third period. He would register four saves in relief. Norwich claimed a 34-19 advantage in shots on goal -
Glenn Wiswell led the Spartans in shots with four.
Tarvainen, along with dishing out an assist, was 15-for-25 on face-offs in his first action since December 3.
The Spartans are back in action Saturday afternoon, taking on New England College. Puck drop in Henniker, N.H. is set for 4 p.m.
