Spartans Compete in UMass Dartmouth Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Castleton men's and women's cross country teams made the trip to Massachusetts Saturday to compete in fields of 256 and 234 respectively in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
 
On the men's side, it was an all-freshmen showing as the Spartans had Nate Forgan, Owen Burnham and Jack Wanders competing. Forgan paced the young group in the five-mile run, crossing the line with a time of 33:14 (6:39 mile time). Rounding out the day for the men's team were Burnham and Wanders, who finished with times of 36:36 (7:19 mile time) and 39:33 (7:54 mile time) respectively.
 
The women's team also put together a limited lineup in Saturday's Invitational, sending just three runners to compete in the 5k. Finishing first among Castleton's runners was freshman Amber Cuthbert, who crossed the line at the 22:17 (7:11 mile time) mark. Coming in behind Cuthbert was Myra Castleton and Charlotte Morrison, finishing with times of 25:51 and 27:49.
 
Next up for both teams is an in-state trip to Randolph, Vt. where they will compete in the Vermont State Meet Saturday, October 1. The races will start at 4 p.m. for the women and 4:45 p.m. for the men.
