HENNIKER, N.H. – The Castleton University wrestling team hit the road to New England College Saturday morning, taking on the Pilgrims in a series of exhibition matches.
Castleton came out on top in 23 of 31 exhibition bouts on the day, though no team score was kept during the competition. 15 of those 23 wins came by pin, and nine of those 15 pins came in the first period.
The Spartans earned two wins apiece from heavyweights Chance LaPier and Spencer Kozlak, as LaPier went 2-0 on the day with wins over Broc Dokos and Francis Boahen via pin and decision, respectively. Kozlak was 2-1 in three bouts with wins over Nate Phillion and Moses Fenelus. Both of Kozlak's wins came via fall. Kaya Bogle, Isiah Hughes and Camrin Russell all wrestled twice on the day with 1-1 records. Each of the three registered a win via pin.
16 other Spartans went 1-0 on the day, as Alijah Seymour, Elijah Cyr, James Rodriguez, Cayleb Leclerc, Kaden Gransbury, Keegan Coon, Tylik Epps, Logan Mead and Sampson Wilkins all won via pin. Dominick Diedrick picked up a 23-7 win via technical fall, and Max Tempel won 9-1 via major decision. Brandon Mogul, Michael Gonyea, Cooper Fleming and Michael Angers all won by way of decision on the day. Syrus Colon rounded out the Spartan winners with a win via medical forfeit.
Castleton wraps up its regular season next Saturday at 2 p.m. at home against Alfred State.
