SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Castleton women's cross country team took a trip to Massachusetts Saturday afternoon to compete in the Western New England Invitational, earning a seventh place finish.
Eden Goldstein once again paced the team in the 6K, earning a team-best 26
th-place finish with a time of 27:49 (7:27 mile time) for the Spartans. The sophomore came just eight seconds short of a top-25 finish in the strong field of competitors.
Following behind Goldstein were freshman
Annika Saunus and
Amber Cuthbert, who finished in 35
th and 38
th with times of 29:06 (7:48 mile time) and 30:39 (8:13 mile time). Both freshmen have shown they can compete and will look to improve upon these finishes heading into the team's next meet.
Rounding out the scoring for Castleton was
Charlotte Morrison and
Myra Castleton, who finished in 40
th and 41
st with times of 33:05 and 33:14 respectively.
The University of New England took first place in Saturday's invitational, with two runners placing in the top-five en route to 46 points. Salve Regina and Bridgewater State tied with 58 points to round out the top-three, while Castleton fell just eight points shy of a sixth place finish, ending their day with 180.
The Spartans will get a week off before returning home with Castleton set to host the Little East Conference Championships Saturday, Oct. 30. The women's race will begin at 12 p.m.
