Wrestling Rolls to 23-11 Win on Senior Night

CASTLETON, Vt.  – The Castleton University wrestling team won the first seven bouts of the match en route to an impressive victory over Williams College Friday night, defeating the Ephs by a final score of 23-11 at Glenbrook Gym.

Castleton's nine seniors were honored prior to the contest, with three seniors—Mitchell LaFlam, Joseph Galusha and Nick Camacho—earning wins on Senior Night. Michael Angers, Chance LaPier, Jason Hoffman, and Joseph Valentino also collected wins for the Spartans.

The night opened with a 6-0 decision win for Angers, followed by an 8-3 decision for LaPier to give the Spartans a 6-0 lead. Hoffman extended the lead to 10-0 with a 13-1 major decision win at 184, before LaFlam notched a major decision of his own—15-4—for a 14-0 Spartan edge.

Castleton then rattled off three straight wins by decision, as Galusha won 5-4, Valentino won 4-1 and Camacho won 14-9. The Ephs closed out the night with three wins, but the match was already well in hand as Castleton led 23-0 with just three bouts remaining. Joseph Rossetti downed Max Tempel 3-1 at 141, before Albert Xing beat Cqari Bacote 12-5 at 149 to make it 23-6. The night ended with a technical fall win—19-3—for Yo Akiyama over Cooper Fleming at 157.

Castleton wraps up regular season action with the NEWA Futures Tournament at Western New England University next Saturday, February 22.
