Wrestling Earns Victory over Plymouth State at Springfield Quad Match

NOTE: This is a revised release due to new information coming to light regarding the Johnson & Wales dual match.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – After losing to third-ranked Johnson & Wales and host Springfield College, the Castleton University wrestling team picked up a 35-12 victory over regional rival Plymouth State Saturday afternoon in a quad match hosted by the Pride.

Tyreek Staton was one of Castleton's best wrestlers of the day, winning all three matches at 125 pounds. He earned one of the Spartans' two victories in the dual against Johnson & Wales, defeating Stephen Nadera with an 8-3 decision. He won his match against Springfield's Joel Zambrano by the same score, and then he got the Plymouth State contest off to a strong start with a 22-6 technical fall win over Adam Correia.

Zak Hale also picked up three victories for the Spartans at 141 pounds, starting with a 10-3 decision victory over Joe Ferinde of Johnson & Wales. He continued his winning ways with a 9-1 major decision victory over Derek Bohle of Springfield College, followed by a 16-0 technical fall win over Tom Pagliarulo of Plymouth State.

Mitchell LaFlam earned Castleton's third and final victory in the Springfield match, earning an 11-3 major decision victory over Seve Burgos at 184 pounds.

Against Plymouth State, Castleton won seven of 10 matches, including a 9-0 major decision victory at 133 pounds for Nick Camacho over Joe Aumann. Tyler Raetz pinned Steve Abusherry at 149 pounds, while Zach Allen won the 174-pound match with a 18-2 technical fall over Zack Cassidy. Joseph Galusha defeated Trevor Wassell in a 5-3 decision in the 197-pound match, and Nick Scott was credited with a forfeit victory in the heavyweight contest.

Castleton (11-13) will compete in its final dual match of the season next Friday, Feb. 10, at Williams College starting at 7 p.m.
