CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University wrestling team picked up three pinfall victories in the first four matches and won eight of the 10 matches overall to cruise to a 35-7 victory over Western New England Friday night at Glenbrook Gym.
Nick Scott got the match off to a strong start for the Spartans in the heavyweight contest, pinning Dom Liquori with seven seconds remaining in the second period to give Castleton a 6-0 lead. Tyreek Staton kept the momentum going, pinning Mike Garone in the 125-pound match with 27 seconds left in the first period to double the Spartan lead.
Nick Camacho held on to defeat Tim McLinden in the 133-pound match, 6-5, and then Zak Hale picked up his 23rd consecutive win at 141 pounds, pinning Alex Starr just 2:06 into the contest. After Western New England earned its first victory of the night, James Kilgo at 157 pounds and Jared Costa at 165 pounds shut out their opponents.
Zach Allen picked up a 9-2 decision victory in the 174-pound match, and then Mitchell LaFlam earned Castleton's final win of the night, defeating Brandon Young on a technical fall after the first period, 19-2.
