POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Castleton men's hockey team played to a 1-1 tie in its first road action of the season on Saturday night, drawing with SUNY Potsdam at Maxcy Ice Arena.

The Spartans move to 1-0-1 on the young season, as does Potsdam following the overtime result. Kevin Rosset potted the game-tying goal in the first period, as the two teams played scoreless hockey for the final 45-plus minutes of the contest. Ryan Mulder stopped 29 shots in the contest between the pipes for Castleton.

Potsdam's Bryce Ferrell tallied a power-play goal just 1:14 into the game to give his team a brief lead, but Rosset answered with his second goal in as many games at 6:33 of the opening period to tie the game. Henning Dahlberg tallied his second assist of the season on the goal, and Bart Moran picked up his first assist.

The Spartan penalty kill was strong for the remainder of the night after the early goal, as the team killed off eight of its nine shorthanded opportunities. After a strong power play on opening night, the team struggled with an extra attacker as it went 0-for-6 on the man advantage.

Castleton held a 38-30 shot advantage in the contest, despite playing a man down nine times.

The team is back in action on Friday, as it hosts Saint Anselm in a New England Hockey Conference matchup at Spartan Stadium beginning at 7 p.m.
