NEWPORT, R.I. – Mark Hochman pushed aside all 30 shots that he faced as Castleton captured a 3-0 victory over Salve Regina on Saturday evening at Portsmouth Abbey Ice Rink.

The Spartans held the lead for over half of the contest even though they were outshot 30-21 and gave up four power play opportunities. Kurt Johnson, Nick Kovalchik and Jimmy Burns produced one goal apiece to help Castleton pick up the win and improve to 5-9 overall

Following a scoreless opening frame, Johnson gave the visitors the lead in the second period after he scored for the second time this year. At the 9:29 marker, Patrick Thornton found Johnson who slotted it home to make it 1-0 in favor of the Spartans.

Kovalchik doubled Castleton's lead just 2:14 into the third stanza when he tallied his third score of the season, and Burns tacked on an empty netter with 54 seconds remaining in regulation to seal a 3-0 victory for the Spartans.

In net, Hochman improved to 2-1 on the year after recording his first career shutout, while the Seahawks David Chiokadze allowed two goals with 18 saves in the losing effort.

Castleton continues its season next Saturday at 7 pm when it hosts the Utica Pioneers on Wounded Warrior Night at Spartan Arena.
