PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Ryan Smith netted the game-winning goal 1:32 into overtime as the Spartans captured a 4-3 victory against Plymouth St. at Hanaway Rink on Saturday evening.

Castleton snapped its six-game losing streak and improved to 4-8 overall with the victory, while the Panthers suffered just their third loss of the year and now sit at 5-3-2 on the season. Brian Greene, Ryan Frost, Charles Bando and Smith scored one goal apiece in the winning effort.

The Spartans got off to a quick start in the opening period as they grabbed an early 2-0 lead. At the 7:40 mark, Greene found the back of the net for the fourth time this year. The senior defenseman fired a shot past Plymouth St.'s goalie, Gordon Caesar, to make it 1-0.

With 5:53 remaining in the first, Frost doubled the Spartans lead when he took advantage of a Panther mistake and scored his team-high fifth goal of the year.

However, in the second period, Plymouth St.'s attack came alive, as the Panthers were able to go ahead with three goals in the middle frame.

At the 4:54 mark in the second, Dan Dupell opened the scoring for Plymouth St. with his third goal of the year. On a power play opportunity, the sophomore forward sent a one-timer home to cut the hosts deficit back to one.

In the final 47 seconds of the middle frame, Andrew Wigg and Mike Economos found the back of the net to give the Panthers a 3-2 lead heading into the final period of play.

Nine seconds into the third period, Bando equalized the contest with his second goal of the year for Castleton before Smith scored the winner with 3:28 left in overtime to guide the Spartans to a 4-3 win.

Brody Wagner picked up his first career victory after stopping 23 of the 26 shots that he faced, while Caesar dropped to 4-2-2 with 26 saves in the losing effort.

Castleton returns to action following Christmas break when it travels to Nichols for a non-conference contest on January 2.
