Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – The Spartans dropped to 3-3 (2-2 ECAC East) overall after falling on the road against No. 14 UMass Boston on Friday evening, 2-0.
In the contest, Castleton was outshot by the opposition 43-32 and was unable to capitalize on any of the teams 12 power play opportunities.
Following a scoreless initial frame, the Beacons wasted no time in the second to take the lead as Stephen Buco netted his fourth goal of the year just 48 seconds into the period. On a breakaway opportunity, the senior forward delivered a shot past Castleton's goalie, Ryan Mulder, and into the back of the net to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
With just one second remaining in the second, UMass Boston doubled its lead when Kit Sitterley deflected Dan Cornell's shot into the goal, making it 2-0 in favor of the Beacons.
The Spartans recorded 13 shots in the final frame, but were unable to beat UMass Boston's goalie, Zach Andrews, as Castleton dropped its second conference game of the season 2-0.
Mulder, who is now 2-2 overall, was impressive in goal on Friday evening for Castleton, recording a career-high 41 saves with a .953 save percentage. Andrews picked up the win for the Beacons after stopping 32 shots en route to the squd's fifth consecutive victory of the season.
The Spartans finish their weekend road trip on Saturday afternoon at 4 pm when they square off with No. 9 Babson (4-0, 3-0 ECAC East) in conference action at the Babson Skating Center.
