Spartans Fall to No. 3 Plattsburgh

Plattsburgh, N.Y. - Castleton went into hostile territory and held the lead over #3 Plattsburgh but allowed six unanswered goals to fall 6-1 to the third-ranked Cardinals on Saturday night at Stafford Ice Arena.

Castleton got on the board first, scoring late in the first period. Chris Stachiw found Charles Bando to put the Spartans ahead 1-0 just a few minutes before the first intermission. 

In the second period, Plattsburgh responded in a big way. The Cardinals put up four consecutive goals in the second without allowing any to the Spartans. The third-ranked squad ended the second frame with a 4-1 advantage. In the third, Plattsburgh kept up the offensive assault, scoring two more goals in the final frame to go up 6-1.

Alex Jensen finished with a hat trick to lead the Cardinals' offense. Michael Cassidy, Graham Yeo, and Michael Radisa each notched a goal as well. Bando finished with the only goal for the Spartans with Stachiw receiving the only Castleton assist. 

Mark Hochman finished with 37 saves but took the loss for the Spartans in net. Mathieu Cadieux finished with 23 saves to earn the victory for the Cardinals. 

Castleton falls to 8-7-1 on the season and will return to action next weekend. The Spartans complete their five-game road trip when they take on University of New England and Southern Maine on Friday, January 17 and Saturday, January 18, respectively.
