Box Score

Northfield, Vt. - The Spartans jumped out to an early lead, but the Cadets scored six unanswered goals to bury the Spartans, 6-1 on Friday night at Kreitzberg Arena.

Josh Harris began the scoring with a short-handed goal at the 5:07 mark of the first period. Justin Alonzo made a diving deflection of a Norwich pass, right to Harris, who skated alone on a breakaway and slipped it past Norwich goaltender Chris Czarnota for the score.

With the goal, Harris tied Castleton' all-time points mark, reaching 121 career points to tie Brandon Heck atop the leaderboard. Alonzo's assist on the play moved him past Harris to become Castleton's all-time assists leader with 79 in his career.

Norwich answered with a goal of their own five minutes later as Kyle Thomas was able to beat Erick Cinotti to tie the game at 1-1 midway through the first period.

In the second period, Norwich ripped off two goals to put the Spartans in a 3-1 hole. Colin Mulvey notched his 16th goal of the season at the 15:48 mark of the second period. Just over three minutes later, Dean Niezgoda cleaned up a scrum in front of the net to give Norwich a two-goal advantage. At the second intermission, Castleton trailed 3-1.

In the third, the Cadets kept the pressure on. Just over six minutes into the period, Blake Forkey notched a goal, scoring off a rebound that Cinotti kick saved into the slot and onto the stick of Forkey, who flipped it in over the sprawling goalie. Just 1:06 later, the Cadets notched another. Shane Gorman scored his fourth goal of the year off an assist Nizgoda and Pier-Olivier Cotnoir. In the final minute of the game, Thomas added his second goal of the night increasing the lead to 6-1, which is how the tilt finished.

Cinotti made 13 saves before being pulled in the third period. Jake Stafford made two saves and allowed one goal in relief. Czarnota made 14 saves in net, earning the win for Norwich.

The Spartans fall to 13-8-2, 8-7-1 in the ECAC East. They will return to action Saturday when they travel to St. Michael's to take on the Purple Knights. The puck drops at 4 p.m.
