Box Score

Rutland, Vt. - The Castleton men's ice hockey team failed to score for the first time this season, dropping a tough tilt against Babson on Friday night, losing 1-0.

Babson goaltender Zeke Testa pitched a shutout, turning away 39 shots as the Spartans launched a constant offensive assault. Spartans goaltender Erick Cinotti made 19 saves, but took the loss, falling to 11-3-0 on the season.

In the first period, the Spartans outshot the Beavers 13-9, but couldn't crack Babson goalie Zeke Testa. Kyle Richards ripped three consecutive shots on goal, but they all were turned away by Testa.

Much like the first frame, the second came and went without a score. The Spartans continued to pound the net, peppering Testa with 16 more shots in the period. Spartans goaltender Erick Cinotti fended off nine shots in the frame to keep the tilt at an even 0-0.

The Spartans put the puck in the net twice during the second frame, but both times, the scores were disallowed after the referees ruled that the puck was kicked in.

In the third, the Beavers were finally able to break the scoring seal, notching a goal with 14:12 remaining in the game. Freshman Max Franklin scored beating Cinotti top shelf to put the Beavers ahead 1-0.

With time ticking away, the Spartans pulled Cinotti in the last minute to get an extra attacker on the ice. They launched several shots, but all were turned away by Testa. The squad couldn't draw even and fell to their first defeat in nine games.

With the loss the Spartans fall to 13-6-2 on the season and 8-5-1 in the conference. They will take on Mass.-Boston Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Spartan Arena. After the game, head coach Alex Todd will honor the senior class.
