Spartans Fall to Babson

Babson Park, Mass. – The Castleton men's hockey team struggled to break through on Saturday afternoon, falling to host Babson 6-1.

The Spartans trailed 3-1 after two periods and gave up three unanswered goals in the final period to drop to 2-3-1 overall and in the ECAC East. The Beavers improve to 1-2-2 with the victory.

Babson converted on its first power play of the game, scoring just 4:00 into the contest. The Beavers made it 2-0 at the 14:39 mark of the second period and pushed their lead to 3-0 with a power-play goal at 10:05.

Castleton finally converted with three seconds left in the second as Ross Herzog scored off assists from Nick Lazorko and Ryan Delorme to cut the lead to 3-1 in favor of the Beavers.

The third period was all Babson as they scored three times and outshot the Spartans by a 15-8 margin to earn the 6-1 win. The Beavers finished the game with a 30-25 advantage in shots.

Thomas Shelley played all 60 minutes and recorded 24 saves while Jamie Murray made 24 stops for Babson.

Castleton returns to the ice on Saturday when it faces off against Brockport at 6 pm in the Rutland Herald Invitational.
