RUTLAND, Vt. – Linemates Josh Harris (Torrance, Calif.), Stuart Stefan (Delhi, Ont.) and Justin Alonzo (San Jose, Calif.) combined for two goals and seven assists to lead No. 10 ranked Castleton past Babson, 6-1, in ECAC East action on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Arena.

The Spartans improve to 13-2-0 overall and 7-2-0 in the ECAC East. The Beavers fall to 7-7-0 overall and 5-4-0 in the conference.

At 8:00 of the first period, junior forward Cody Ayers (Colorado Springs, Colo.) jumpstarted a Castleton offense that scored five-straight goals with his fifth goal of the season on assists from teammates Colin Murray (Oshawa, Ont.) and Dan Bell (Victoria, B.C.).

Leading 1-0 after one period of play, the Spartans scored early and often in the second as Kyle Pichler (Anchorage, Alaska) netted first-collegiate goal only one minute and 48 seconds into the period.

Alonzo made it 3-0 at 8:08 beating Babson goaltender Zeke Testa (Wellesley, Mass.) on assists by Stefan and Harris.

Ben Schoeneberger (Vernon, Conn.) pushed the lead to 4-0 at 18:40 of the second potting his fourth goal of the season past Testa on the power play

In the third, junior defenseman Tyler Atkins (Brockville, Ont.) wasted little time getting in on the scoring tallying his second goal of the season only 51 seconds into the period beating backup goaltender Dustyn Zenner (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) for a 5-0 gap.

Sophomore forward PT Donato (Arlington, Mass.) scored the Beavers' lone goal just two minutes and seven seconds later on a nice feed from teammate Jon Theriault (Boisbrand, Quebece) to break up Castleton goaltender Erick Cinotti's (Mahwah, N.J.) third-career shutout bid. Donato's marker was his team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Harris pushed the deficit back to five goals making at 10:17 on assists from Stefan and Alonzo.

Cinotti (5-1-0) turned away 20 shots for the Spartans in net while Testa made 13 saves for Babson and backup goaltender, Zenner, stopped 10 shots.

Castleton travels to Hamilton on Friday, January 21 at 7 pm.
