Rutland, VT – The Castleton State College men's ice hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie against Hamilton College on Friday night at Spartan Arena in ECAC East/NESCAC cross over action

The Spartans shift to 6-6-3 on the season. The Continentals move to 7-6-2 overall.

Sophomore Steven Miles (Nepean, Ont.) opened up the scoring for Castleton at 12:04 of the first period.

Miles redirected a slapshot defenseman Jonathan Lafrance (N.D.I.P., Que) past Calvin Bartel (Drake, Sask.) for the early 1-0 lead.

The Spartans jumped out ahead to a 2-0 lead under a minute into the second period.

On an offensive rush, Omar Pacha (Boucherville, Que.) secured a loose puck in the slot and sniped a wrister over Bartel's glove for the two goal lead 55 seconds into the second.

Hamilton responded just 37 seconds later as Ryan Guerin (Lewiston, ME) notched a shot past Castleton goaltender Arthur Hollinger (Homer Glen, IL) who was screened in front of the net.

The Continentals tied up the contest late in the third period to force overtime thanks to Tom Chiappetta (Myrtle Beach, SC).

Stationed at the left post, Chiappetta stuffed home a pass from teammate Brandon Broad (West Seneca, NY) behind Hollinger for the two-all tie at 17:14.

Hollinger finished the contest stopping 30 shots while Bartel made 30 saves as well.

Castleton returns to action tomorrow against Amherst at 4:00 p.m. at Spartan Arena. Hamilton travels to Skidmore to play a 4:00 p.m. contest.
