Culbertson short-handed goal caps three-goal third for the Spartans

Rutland, VT – Steve Culbertson's short-handed goal with 8:41 remaining in the game capped a three-goal, third-period as Castleton came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat visiting Norwich 3-2 in ECAC Men's East action at the Rutland Regional Fieldhouse on Saturday evening.

With the score knotted at 2-2, Culbertson broke free and scored the game-winner while Castleton skated one man-down after taking a penalty 40 seconds prior.

After a scoreless first period, the Cadets posted a pair of goals during the second period as Nikita Kashirsky and Greg Eskedjian each scored to give Norwich the 2-0 advantage. Kashirsky's goal came on the power-play, 7:45 into the period off assists from Chad Anderson and Eric Tallent. Eskedjian followed with his fourth of the season assisted by Tallent once again.

The third period belonged to Castleton as Culbertson opened the scoring just 47 seconds in, off a Brandon Heck assist. Jonathan LaFrance evened the score unassisted less than five minutes later, setting the stage for Culbertson's heroics.

Jeff Swanson stopped 19 shots as Castleton improves to 13-8-2 overall and 9-6-2 in conference play. The Spartans sit just one point behind Norwich at the top of the ECAC East standings. Ryan Klingensmith had 16 saves as the Cadets fall to 11-7-4 overall and 9-5-3 in conference play.
