Saratoga Springs, NY- The Castleton State College men's ice hockey team dropped a 6-1 contest on the road to Skidmore College Friday evening in ECAC East action.
The Thoroughbreds improve to 3-2 in league play and 4-4 overall. The Spartans are 0-4-1 and 1-5-1.
Skidmore scored first when Chris Webb (Holliston, Mass./NE Huskies) tallied his second goal of the season from Jack Walsh (North Reading, Mass./Andover Academy) and Tim Daley (Wilton, N.Y./ CD Selects) at 3:56. Walsh made it 2-0 at 9:51 on a rebound off a Julian Malakorn (Warwick, R.I./Pomfret). Castleton got one back late in the period, when Stuart Stefan rifled one from outside at 18:59 to make it 2-1 after one.
In the second, Thoroughbred defenseman Nick Dupuis (Holyoke, Mass./Springfield Falcons) scored two quick goals during a four-on-four. His first came at 10:02, chasing Spartan goalie Seth McNary. Dupuis second was at 11:27 to extend the lead to 4-1.
Skidmore closed out the game with third period goals by Brendan Cottam (Belmont, Mass./Lawrence Acad.) and Charlie Moroni (North Providence, R.I./Loomis Chaffee).
Thoroughbred goalie Colin Bessey (Montclair, N.J./Trinity Pawling) had 29 saves in 50:49. John Bienkowski (Lexington, Mass./Hoosac School) stopped five shots over the final 9:11. McNary had 13 saves, while Justin Roethlingshoefer played 19:09 with six saves on nine shots and Arthur Hollinger played the final 9:11 with three saves on three shots.
Castleton is back in action Saturday at Utica when the Spartans take the ice for a 7:00 pm face off. Both teams will take part in the Plattsburgh Cardinal Classic on January 1. Skidmore will open with Trinity College, while Castleton plays the Cardinals.
