Castleton's third period comeback falls just short

1/6/2009 12:00:00 AM

Rutland, VT – Omar Pacha scored his sixth goal of the season with 6:34 remaining in the third period to bring Castleton State College within one goal of visiting Skidmore, but the Spartans could get no closer as the Throughbreds held on for a 3-2 ECAC Men's East victory.

Skidmore jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a Hunter Thayer one timer slipped past the glove of Castleton's Jay Seals. Alex Mykolenko added to the lead with a power play goal 4:31 seconds later into the period, giving the 6-3-0 (3-2-0 ECAC East) Thoroughbreds a 2-0 lead at the first intermission

Castleton wasted little time getting on the board in the second period, scoring 1:36 in when Jared Lavender one timed a pass from Eric Curtis on the power play. Skidmore answered right back with a power play goal of its own when Phil McDavitt scored his first goal of the season.

Skidmore's goaltender Andrew Ross would stopped 30 of 32 shots on the night to keep the Spartans at bay and preserve the win. Seals stopped 22 shots in the loss as Castleton falls to 5-6-0 (1-4-0 ECAC East).

Castleton will head to Middlebury College this Friday for a NESCAC-ECAC East Cross-over match up starting at 7:00 pm.
