Castleton skates to 1-1 tie with #13 Babson

Babson Park, MA-The Castleton State College men's ice hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with 13th ranked Babson College in ECAC East play.

In a game played in less than two hours, neither team could muster any sort of scoring momentum as both squads stayed out of the penalty box for the better part of the game.

Castleton struck first, just 38 seconds into the game as Kirk Bolduc scored off assists from Brandon Heck and Jared Lavender. Babson answered with just under 11 minutes remaining in the first period as Mike Venit scored his eighth goal of the season off assists from Shane Farrell and Pat McLaughlin.

The teams would battle through the remainder of the game scoreless, with no penalties called in the third period or overtime session. On the night Castleton was whistled for just five penalties, while Babson registered only two.

Castleton's Jeff Swanson stopped 28 shots as the Spartans move to 6-10-2 overall and 4-6-2 in ECAC East play. Beaver goalie, Skylar Nipps recorded 17 saves as Babson's record goes to 11-4-3 overall and 7-3-2 in conference play.

Castleton will take on UMass-Boston Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
