Rutland, VT - Brandon Heck posted a five-point night as Castleton State College skated to a 6-2 win over visiting SUNY-Potsdam in non-conference men's ice hockey action at the Rutland Regional Fieldhouse.
Castleton jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first period as Heck provided assists on three of the four goals. Jonathan Lafrance started the scoring 10:32 into the contest off a Jeff Alexander assist. Omar Pacha followed with his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Heck and Stuart Stefan. Steve Culbertson converted assists from Heck and Jared Lavender for what proved to be the game winner with just under five minutes remaining, and Lavender capped the first period scoring with 15 seconds left, assisted by Culbertson and Heck.
Todd Hosmer got one back for the 3-7-3 Bears 13:32 into the second period, but Culbertson answered with his second of the contest assisted by Pacha and Heck.
Heck tacked on an empty-net tally after Adam Martinez made it 5-2 in the third period as Castleton improves to 3-4-0 on the season.
Jay Seals stopped 30 shots in the win, while Trevor O'Neill took the loss, stopping nine first period shots. O'Neill was lifted in favor of Rick Miller for the final two periods, and Miller turned away 21 shots.
Castleton will travel to Plymouth State on Saturday to close out the first semester with a 6:00 pm non-conference match-up.
Potsdam breaks for the semester and will return to action after the new year with a home contest against Neumann on January 8.
