Rutland, VT-Brandon Heck tallied a pair of goals and had an assist to lead Castleton to a 5-0 win over St. Michael's. The Spartans wrap up their 2006-07 home season an impressive 11-1-1 at the Rutland Regional Fieldhouse. With just two games remaining Castleton is sitting at 15-5-3 overall and 10-4-3 in ECAC East play.
Castleton struck for three goals in the first period as Craig Richardson scored just five minutes into the game assisted by Eric Curtis and Evan Romeo. Heck would score his 13 th goal of the season six minutes later assisted by Ryan Bartlett and Travis Martell. Romeo found the net for Castleton's final tally of the period as Curtis dished out his second assist of the game.
Heck would strike again in the second period, this time scoring a power-play marker assisted by Joe Huchko who was playing in his final regular-season game at the Fieldhouse. Five minutes into the final period Bartlett would put home an insurance goal as Castleton held on the rest of the way to ensure the shut-out.
Jeff Swanson earned the shut-out, stopping 12 shots on the afternoon. Erik Smith recorded 25 saves for the Purple Knights who fall to 6-16 overall and 2-14 in conference. Castleton will take to the road next weekend for a pair of pivotal match-ups versus Trinity and Wesleyan. St. Michael's returns home to face-off versus Colby and Bowdoin.
